Samuel Maldonado

BS Biology, Gordon College

MD, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School

PhD Immunology, Rutgers School of Graduate Studies

Sam is an Infectious Diseases fellow at Mass General Brigham completing his research fellowship in the Gaiha lab. He received a BS in Biology from Gordon College and completed the combined MD/PhD program at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies. He conducted his research in the lab of Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald-Bocarsly, with his thesis focusing on the immune dysregulation observed in chronic HIV infection and its impact on anti-fungal immune responses. He went on to complete an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Virginia and is currently a Research Fellow at MGB. He is excited to build on his immunology background to enter the field of translational medicine, and will be working to develop an experimental immune cell engager to target the HIV viral reservoir.

In his free time he hangs out with his lovely wife and his two beautiful daughters, plays a lot of chess, dabbles in ukulele and guitar, and was a pretty good rock climber back in the day.
